Richmond, VA – Jason Miyares is responsible for protecting Virginians from federal overreach, including policies that threaten their access to affordable, quality healthcare. Instead, Miyares has consistently prioritized politics over Virginians’ health, pioneering and supporting policies ripping healthcare away from those who need it most. Here are the facts:
- Miyares wrote his own legislation pushing thousands of Virginians off of Medicaid coverage – the same plan now at the core of Trump’s Medicaid cuts, which will cause “about 350,000 people in Virginia” to lose health insurance and strip $26 billion “in funding for health providers in Virginia.”
- Miyares called for the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, which would cause 685,000 Virginians to lose their health insurance coverage and eliminate protections for Virginians with preexisting conditions.
- Miyares voted against expanding Medicaid in Virginia, which expanded coverage to 400,000 low-income individuals.
- Miyares called Medicaid expansion “not the best vehicle” to help uninsured Virginians – then admitted “I don’t have a solution.”
- Miyares also voted to allow short-term health plans that were not required to cover essential health benefits and that would have been allowed to discriminate against individuals with preexisting conditions and impose lifetime and annual caps.
- Miyares has refused to defend rural Virginians from Trump’s cuts to community health centers, which “more than 400,000 Virginians rely on.”
