Jay Jones’ Statement on the Trump Administration Firing Federal Workers Amid Government Shutdown

Norfolk, VA – Today, Donald Trump’s top advisor and Project 2025 author Russ Vought announced that layoffs of federal workers have begun amid Trump’s government shutdown. In response, Democratic nominee for Virginia Attorney General Jay Jones released the following statement.

“Donald Trump’s decision to fire Virginia’s federal workers at random in the middle of a shutdown is reckless. As Attorney General, I’ll take swift action to stop any illegal firings and protect our civil servants, because they deserve better than to be treated like pawns in the president’s political games. 

“While Trump and his allies play games with Virginians’ livelihoods, Jason Miyares refuses to stand up to him. This is exactly why Trump gave Miyares his ‘Complete and Total Endorsement’ – and why Miyares is the wrong person to serve as Attorney General.”
