Jones: “What brought us to Roanoke was the creativity of what we’re seeing with all of the programs here. You’re seeing the community… elected officials… organizations come together. We can make a real dent in this problem of gun violence if we can keep our eyes on the ball.”
Norfolk, VA – Yesterday, Democratic nominee for Virginia Attorney General Jay Jones convened a roundtable discussion with Roanoke City Councilman Phazhon Nash, Sheriff Antonio Hash, Chief Scott Booth, and local law enforcement, faith, and community leaders to discuss their successful gun violence prevention strategies and community partnership programs. During the conversation, participants emphasized the critical role of community engagement in reducing gun violence.
“Thanks to Chief Booth and our RESET Team and the work they do on the ground, getting into the community just to introduce themselves, it’s been instrumental in making sure that these programs are effective. Every single one of them has the key element of community,” said City Manager Valmarie Turner.
Jones praised Roanoke’s efforts as a model for the Commonwealth, reaffirming his commitment to tackling gun violence with a comprehensive, community-centered approach if elected Attorney General. Jones also toured the 911 Center and heard from officers how they’re using new technology to get ahead of crime.
