Jay Jones’ Statement on U.S. Inflation Rising in Latest CPI Report

Norfolk, VA – Today, Democratic nominee for Attorney General Jay Jones released the following statement in response to inflation rising to 2.9% – “the highest reading since January.” While Virginia families are struggling to keep up with rising grocery, utility, and housing costs, AG Jason Miyares has stayed silent behind Donald Trump’s extreme MAGA policies that led to this drastic increase. He refused to join twelve other AGs in a lawsuit on Trump’s tariffs which are harming Virginia’s economy, putting loyalty to Trump over Virginians struggling with high costs.

This week, Jones released a new plan to lower costs and protect Virginia consumers by cracking down on price-gouging, deceptive business practices, and bad actors.

Statement by Jay Jones, Democratic Nominee for Attorney General:

“Yesterday’s CPI report confirms what working families across Virginia already know — inflation is squeezing household budgets, and costs are rising across the board. From the grocery store to the pharmacy to monthly rent, Virginians are paying more and getting less.

“At a moment when Virginians need real leadership, Jason Miyares is nowhere to be found. He’s failing to stand up to Donald Trump, even as Trump’s illegal tariffs are driving up costs and failed policies are undermining job security across the Commonwealth. Miyares has made his choice: loyalty to Trump over the needs of Virginia families.

“As Attorney General, I have a plan to protect Virginians from rising costs by cracking down on price-gouging corporations, utility monopolies passing on extra fees, predatory debt collection, and the Trump administration’s attacks on our jobs and our economy.”
