Norfolk, VA – As a federal district court judge casts skepticism on the Trump administration’s decision to withhold SNAP benefits from millions of Americans, Virginia AG Jason Miyares is once again missing in action – abandoning the 854,000 Virginians, including children and seniors, who stand to lose food assistance.
On Wednesday, six members of Virginia’s U.S. House delegation wrote to Miyares, urging him “to join more than two dozen other states in a lawsuit to require President Donald Trump to continue funding food assistance that is about to expire Saturday… during the ongoing federal government shutdown.” Yet, instead of standing up for Virginia families, Miyares continued to stand by Trump’s side and spent the week campaigning with other Republican AGs.
Over the last ten months, Miyares has had 50 opportunities to challenge harmful Trump administration policies on everything from mass firings and illegal tariffs to reproductive rights and school funding – and not once has he put Virginians first, leaving them to sustain “big losses” compared to AGs who fought back for their states.
Virginians deserve an Attorney General who puts them first, not let children go hungry to appease Donald Trump.
