Press Releases
Norfolk, VA – Today, Jay Jones, Democratic nominee for Virginia Attorney General, released the following statement on a coalition of attorneys general challenging the Trump administration’s decision not to use emergency funds through the government shutdown to keep SNAP benefits running for nearly 42 million Americans, including more than 850,000 Virginians. Jason Miyares refused to join the lawsuit.
“Other attorneys general are doing what Jason Miyares refuses to: stand up to Donald Trump to defend Virginians in need. While more than 850,000 Virginians could lose food assistance amid rising costs and mass layoffs, Miyares is siding with Trump – refusing to sue just like the 50 other times he has refused to challenge MAGA extremism.
“Republicans know exactly what these consequences mean for real people, but Miyares is still putting his loyalty to Trump over Virginians’ health and well-being. Virginians deserve an Attorney General who will fight for them – not let them go hungry to stay in the president’s good graces.”
