Norfolk, VA – Donald Trump’s reckless government shutdown is continuing to hurt Virginia’s nearly 600,000 veterans and federal workers, and AG Jason Miyares still won’t say a word on their behalf. “Around 30,000 VA employees are currently furloughed as a result of the shutdown,” and due to Trump’s policies, they may not receive back pay – which VA Secretary Collins echoed” this week. What’s more, “100,000 enrollees in [VA programs] are not currently receiving counseling or case management services” and “more than 900,000 beneficiaries in VA’s education programs cannot contact” the VA for help, according to new reporting.
This isn’t the first time Miyares has failed to stand up for Virginia’s veterans. Trump’s cuts to the federal workforce have resulted in “severe” shortages at Department of Veterans Affairs hospitals, including the Fredericksburg Veterans Affairs Healthcare Center, which is understaffed by over 500 doctors and nurses, leaving tens of thousands of veterans in the area without the critical healthcare they need.
In continuing to stand squarely behind President Trump’s shutdown, Miyares has shown he’ll do anything to keep Trump’s “Complete and Total Endorsement.”
