Jason Miyares Silent as Government Shutdown Threatens Food Assistance Program

Norfolk, VA – As Trump’s government shutdown drags on, “food assistance for 830,000 Virginians” is at risk – and AG Jason Miyares is nowhere to be found. Local pantries across the Commonwealth are “already feeling pressure from furloughed government employees, including military personnel, who are turning to food assistance during the shutdown,” according to new reporting. Meanwhile, Jason Miyares hasn’t pushed back once against Trump’s mass firings or healthcare cuts that are set to impact nearly 350,000 Virginians.

And now, “without immediate assistance” from the federal government, “there could be insufficient funding to support SNAP benefits program starting in November.” Still, Miyares doesn’t have a plan to protect Virginia families or their access to affordable, quality healthcare and food – choosing to protect his political allies in Washington rather than fight for those hit hardest by the shutdown.
