Richmond, VA – Jason Miyares is responsible for standing up to big corporations and lowering costs, but he has consistently prioritized politics over Virginians’ pocketbooks, between failing to protect Virginia from price-gouging corporations and refusing to defend the Commonwealth’s economy against Trump’s tariffs and mass firings. Here are the facts:
Miyares has failed to protect Virginians from Trump and DOGE’s mass firings:
- Miyares refused to join other attorneys general in challenging Trump’s federal workforce cuts, leaving thousands of Virginia’s federal workers without jobs and 300,000 civil servants and contractors at risk of losing their livelihoods.
- Miyares still doesn’t have a plan to protect Virginia’s federal workers from Trump’s additional layoffs during the current government shutdown, continuing to let Trump threaten their livelihoods, paychecks, healthcare, and local economies.
Miyares has failed to protect Virginians from Trump’s economic policies:
- Miyares refused to join other attorneys general in challenging Trump’s tariffs – costing the average Virginia family $2,400 per year in higher costs – even after a judge ruled that the tariffs were illegal.
Miyares has continually put his corporate donors above Virginians:
- Miyares accepted over $1.6 million from his top corporate donor, Virginia’s largest utility monopoly – then did nothing while it raised Virginia households’ utility bills.
- Miyares accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars from donors in the real estate industry while fighting against affordable housing and protections for renters, including voting against the Virginia Fair Housing Law, against prohibiting landlords from discriminating against tenants, and against protections to keep Virginia homeowners in their homes.
