Jason Miyares Does Nothing as Trump’s Shutdown Threatens Health Care Access for Rural Virginians

Norfolk, VA – In the second week of Donald Trump’s government shutdown, community health centers across rural Virginia are facing devastating uncertainty – but Jason Miyares has still done nothing to defend the care they provide to families. In Southwest Virginia, “more than 400,000 Virginians rely on” community health centers, which “are now at financial risk.” Without federal funding, these clinics are struggling to keep doors open, pay staff, and maintain essential services. To make matters worse, Trump’s shutdown – which Miyares hasn’t pushed back against – “affects patients covered by Medicare, meaning telehealth services will no longer be covered.”

While Virginians face layoffs, closed clinics, and lost access to care, Attorney General Jason Miyares is doing nothing because he’s too beholden to the president to defend Virginia.
