Jay Jones: Jason Miyares Needs To Detail Exactly What He Will Do To Protect Virginia Jobs and Work

Norfolk, VA – Today, Jay Jones, Democratic nominee for Virginia Attorney General, released the following statement on Donald Trump’s government shutdown.

“While Donald Trump cuts Medicaid for more than 300,000 Virginians, and nearly 400,000 Virginians will see their healthcare premiums more than double, MAGA AG Jason Miyares is silent. While this administration recklessly slashes federal jobs – risking thousands of livelihoods here in the Commonwealth, Miyares remains silent.

“Now, the Trump administration is threatening the well-being and financial security of Virginia families. And while unions are already fighting back, Jason Miyares is too weak to stand up for Virginia. With tens of thousands of jobs at risk, Miyares must detail exactly what steps he will take to protect Virginia jobs and workers from Trump’s shutdown and lawless mass firings. We need leaders who will put Virginia first, not politicians like Miyares who are too weak to protect Virginia jobs and economy.”

AG Jason Miyares has refused to join 50 lawsuits standing up to Trump’s attacks on the American people, including those that would have protected Virginians against Trump’s attacks on the Commonwealth’s workforce and economy. MAGA Miyares has refused to:

  • Work to block Trump’s illegal tariffs, leaving Virginians to suffer higher costs while other AGs fought and won on behalf of their states’ economies.
  • Protect against unlawful federal firings – including Trump’s mass termination of 10,000 HHS employees – threatening Virginia’s workforce
  • Block the Trump administration’s rules governing the Affordable Care Act that would cost 1.8 million Americans to lose their health insurance
  • Secure federal funding that the Trump administration froze for Virginia schools – threatening summer and afterschool programs – and public health funding
  • Protect against cuts to the Department of Education
  • Block Trump’s attacks against Virginians’ reproductive freedoms and funding for Planned Parenthood
  • Reinstate National Institutes of Health grants
