Norfolk, VA – Today, Jay Jones released the following statement on new reporting that highlights how Trump and Washington Republicans’ extreme Big Bill is already gutting healthcare access for rural Virginia – and how Jason Miyares is too weak to stand up to the president on behalf of Virginians.
The closure of three Augusta Medical Group clinics is attributed to the company’s “ongoing response to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and the resulting realities for healthcare delivery.” According to CNN, “rural health providers that rely on Medicaid funding were already under strain,” but while other attorneys general fought the Big Bill, MAGA Miyares refused to sue the administration in defense of hospitals across Virginia.
Statement from Jay Jones, Democratic Nominee for Attorney General:
“Donald Trump’s Big Bill is ripping healthcare away from thousands of Virginians and shuttering clinics that rural communities rely on. Augusta Medical Group’s decision to close three clinics is just the tip of the iceberg – and it’s happening because Jason Miyares is too scared to do his job and fight for Virginia against Trump and Washington Republicans’ Medicaid cuts that will throw nearly 300,000 Virginians off their healthcare.
“When Virginians in rural communities are wondering where to take their kids or parents in an emergency, Jason Miyares should be fighting tooth and nail to protect them. Instead, he’s refusing to hold Trump accountable or take legal action to shield Virginians from these devastating cuts.
“As Attorney General, I’ll fight every single day to expand access to quality, affordable healthcare – not stand aside and let Trump take it away.”
