Norfolk, VA – Today, Democratic nominee for Attorney General Jay Jones released the following statement in response to the national unemployment rate increasing. Continuing to stand firmly by President Trump’s side while his harmful policies slash Virginia’s workforce, economy, and livelihoods, MAGA Jason Miyares has proved he is too weak to be Attorney General.
Under MAGA Miyares’ leadership, Virginia has seen seven straight months of rising unemployment, and the Commonwealth’s economy is set to shrink in the second half of this year and into 2026. Just last week, a federal appeals court ruled in favor of twelve other AGs who have fought back against Trump to protect their states, but Miyares refused to join the lawsuit, once again putting loyalty to Trump over Virginians struggling with high costs.
Statement by Jay Jones, Democratic Nominee for Attorney General:
“Unemployment is on the rise, and Virginia’s workforce is feeling the impact at a disproportionate level. Every uptick in unemployment means more parents worrying about affording groceries, prescription drugs, housing costs, and job security.
“At a moment when Virginians need a fighter to stand up for them, Jason Miyares has gone silent. He is too weak to push back against Trump, even as Trump’s policies threaten jobs and economic security across the Commonwealth. Miyares has made it clear that his loyalty lies with Trump, not with the working families he was elected to serve.
“Virginians deserve better. As Attorney General, I’ll fight every day to protect jobs, lower costs, and build an economy that works for everyone. It’s time to put Virginia families first.”
