Norfolk, VA – As Virginians celebrate Labor Day, here’s a reminder of MAGA AG Jason Miyares’ staunch, ongoing anti-worker record. Since his time in the legislature, Miyares has opposed increasing the state’s minimum wage to $15 an hour, opposed allowing localities to recognize unions and collectively bargain, and opposed allowing state and local entities to require project labor agreements on public works projects. As Attorney General, MAGA Miyares led a coalition of AGs opposing a labor agreement with HHS and CMS and refused to protect the 300,000 workers and contractors at risk of losing their jobs due to Trump’s mass layoffs.
In contrast, Jay Jones, a former member of AFGE Local 1403, fought for fair pay and benefits, paid leave for all, and passed Virginia’s historic collective bargaining law. As Attorney General, Jones will create Virginia’s first Labor Justice Unit dedicated to cracking down on wage theft, combating union busting, and holding corporations accountable when they break the law.
Communications Director Georgia Greenleaf:
“MAGA Jason Miyares has spent his career siding with special interest donors and extreme MAGA Republicans over working families. Virginians deserve an Attorney General who will fight for them, not against them. Jay Jones has always stood shoulder-to-shoulder with workers, and as Attorney General, he’ll ensure every Virginian gets the fair pay, safe working conditions, and dignity they deserve on the job.”
