Jones: “I’m in this race to protect and defend Virginians’ fundamental rights and freedoms, especially as they’re coming under constant attack from federal overreach.”
Norfolk, VA – This week, Democratic nominee for Virginia Attorney General Jay Jones joined California Attorney General Rob Bonta, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, and Democratic Attorneys General Association President Sean Rankin and American Federation of Government Employees President Everett Kelly to discuss how Democratic attorneys general are fighting back against the Trump administration’s attacks on federal workers.
During the event, Jones highlighted how he plans to protect Virginia’s thousands of federal workers and contractors.
On fighting back against federal workforce cuts: “When Donald Trump fired federal workers who drive our economy, Miyares stood by and let him through, and he still hasn’t said a word about how he’s going to protect hundreds of thousands of these jobs that are still at risk. Virginia deserves leadership that will step up and fight back and protect people – not capitulate to the MAGA movement.”
On supporting Virginia businesses and jobs: “CNBC dropped Virginia in the rankings from number one to number four because of the reductions in the federal workforce – I lay this directly at Jason Miyares’ feet for failing to step up and fight. I’ll push back against federal overreach that’s going to threaten Virginia’s jobs, whether in unlawful firings, attacks on workers’ rights, or policies that are going to put our economy in jeopardy.”
On protecting Virginia families’ pocketbooks: “As an Assistant Attorney General focused on consumer protection, I kept people safe from the banks that are scamming people and tech companies that are making us less secure. We’re going to advocate for tougher protections against corporate landlords, predatory lenders, scams, and corporate fraud so that we can serve as a strong advocate for our consumers.”
On MAGA Miyares: “Jason Miyares has done nothing but serve as Donald Trump’s pro bono attorney. He’s failed to protect our families from Trump gutting Medicaid, imposing illegal tariffs and skyrocketing prices, freezing money for our public schools, and attacking reproductive health care. He’s unwilling to stand up to Trump and fight for Virginia… but this office belongs to the people of Virginia, and we will return it to them.”
